Summary 0003821: KDE font problem when .Xdefaults exists
Description I rememer using Redhat 9-ish and KDE and wonder why Redhat never fixed the
font problem in KDE. Suddenly, the fonts in KDE become very large or very
tiny. In the filemanger, the taskbar, in the title on xterms and so on. It
offen happend when I changed something in KDE, could be anything. I never
understod why exactly. So I logged out from KDE and in again, sometimes,
the problem was gone, sometimes the problem still existed. Sometimes, it
was worse. It was totally random.

It was so long time ago that I dont remember exactly when it started.
Could be before RH9 or after. I used Mandrake for a while also. They had
exactly the same problem. I was very annoyed. Then I used Fedora. Guess
what? The problem was still there! And now, I use CentOS. And the damn
problem is still there!!

In dec 2007 I got a new work laptop. I installed CentOS on it. I cfged
KDE and it was working great, no strange KDE font problems. I did this
without copying all my dotfiles that I always did on a new computer.
When I copied them... The KDE font problem was BACK. Interesting, so
in was somewhere in my dotfiles? I discovered that it was .Xdefaults
that did it. And it didnt matter was it says in the file. The problem
still happens if the FILE EXISTS and IS 0 BYTES.

Now, the default colors in emacs is so tragic shitty in CentOS by
default so I HAVE TO change it. If I put the stuff i had for emacs in
my .Xdefaults in /usr/share/control-center-2.0/xrdb/Emacs.ad it work
as aspected. No ugly colors in emacs and no broken KDE fonts. The rest
in my .Xdefaults was all that important so I lived without it.

Still, I want it to be fixed as its a BUG. It should NOT be like this.
I have no clue WHERE this problem is, except that it is triggered when
a .Xdefaults file exist at all.
Additional Information Im happy to help if anyone has any questions.
