Summary 0003951: mcelog hourly cron job fails without exiting properly
Description The mcelog.cron job in /etc/cron.hourly fails. It is apparently hanging in the test `cat /sys/hypervisor/uuid` != "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"

Though no processes appear to be using CPU in `top` the loadavg increases by approximately 1.00% each hour when the cron job runs.

This issue appeared with the upgrade to CentOS 5.4 and mcelog-0.9pre-1.27.el5

Load increase is 1.0, not 1.0% per hour. This will cause sendmail to stop accepting connections in about 1 day as the default reject connections too busy level is 20 or so....

I had the same problems with mcelog.cron script after I upgraded to Centos 5.4 and I stopped xend.
I've started xend and the load decrease to normal (it saw 21.0), since the "D" state processes were able to read /sys/hypervisor/uuid .

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but sometimes several times per day, all windows open in an current/active workspace will suddenly close on me sometimes. When I check the log files, the latest entry is in the cron log, and seems to point toward cron.hourly ~ suspicious or paranoid? :)

I recently installed VNC server and have only seemed to notice this happening after that.

I also have VirtualBox installed, but it's been running all along without any apparent issues.

I only noticed all of this after I installed VNC server on 5.4
