I have rebuilt samba for CentOS-5 using the patch provided in the upstream bugzilla. They are available for your testing:

http://centos.toracat.org/misc/testing/samba/ [^]

With this patched version, the credential file worked fine again.

The upstream bugzilla is now tagged with "regression" and marked "urgent". An updated version is rc.

Also experiencing this issue after most recent 5.4 updates.

Wanted to note the workaround provided here (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=532153#c19) [^] worked for me.

Right. Upstream has not released the patched version of samba yet. I supposed they are QA'ing it now (hence marked 'rc').
