Summary0014176: gdm login screen keyboard layout
DescriptionI have fresh installed CentOS 7.4.1708 with Gnome desktop and russian locale choosen during setup. And I see following gdm behavior on login screen.
I have the keyboard layout indicator on top right of the screen. If I click on it I get the drop down menu with two languages, en and ru, can choose any and keyboard layout changes accordingly.
And if I try switch keyboard layout by pressing Alt-Shift, the layout changes but the state of indicator - not. It responds only on mouse.
I noticed one more strange thing. If I consistently press Alt-Shift several times the layout changes as follows:
It looks like I have one english layout and two russian.
Steps To ReproduceDuring install CentOS 7.4.1708 select russian locale and "Gnome Desktop" software.
On first login select "Нет в списке?" ("Not listed?" in russian) to get input box on login screen.
Type some letters. You'll see russian characters.
Press Alt-Shift to switch keyboard to english.
Type some letters. You'll see russian again.
Press Alt-Shift once more.
Type some letters. You'll see english characters. But keyboard layout indicator on top right conner still "ru"
Additional InformationI was looking for solution and and saw references on /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf file. Here is my and it looks good:

Section "InputClass"
   Identifier "system-keyboard"
   MatchIsKeyboard "on"
   Option "XkbLayout" "ru,us"
   Option "XkbVariant" ","
   Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
