Product Version7.4.1708
Target VersionFixed in Version
Summary0014943: mariadb failed to start in centos 7.4
DescriptionProblem appeared after upgrade from 7.3 (mariadb-5.5.52-1.el7.src.rpm) to 7.4 (mariadb-5.5.56-2.el7.src.rpm) .

When starting mariadb, mysql directory should be initialized in mariadb-prepare-db-dir file. Directory specified in $datadir variable does not exist yet, which means if condition on line 114 "if should_initialize "$datadir" ; then" should be evaluated TRUE to create the directory.
However, when $datadir does not exist, it is evaluated FALSE and we get error "Database MariaDB is not initialized, but the directory $datadir is not empty, so initialization cannot be done." and mariadb won't start.

There seems to be wrong condition in file mariadb-prepare-db-dir in function should_initialize().

Workaround is to create $datadir everytime before starting mariadb.
Steps To Reproducestart mariadb without existing $datadir
