Summary0016022: Headless server hangs indefinitely at grub menu after power failure/restore
DescriptionSystem:
Headless server (no monitor keyboard)
i7-7500U 32GB ram
250GB SSD with OS
2TB data disk
Bios set to reboot after power failure
Grub settings.
/etc/default/grub
GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="countdown"
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="$(sed 's, release .*$,,g' /etc/system-release)"
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=true
GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT="console"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1 net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0 pcie_aspm.policy=performance"
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true"

Behaviour:
System runing normally. Cut external power / restore external power.
System reboots but hangs indefinitely at the grub kernel selection menu.

Expected behaviour:
grub selects default kernel after timeout and boots normally.
Steps To ReproduceHeadless setup - no keyboard
System runing normally. Cut external power / restore external power.
System reboots but hangs indefinitely at the grub kernel selection menu.
Additional Information1. Plugging in keyboard results in expected behaviour.

2. Ubuntu documentation has the following information: "GRUB 2 searches for a depressed SHIFT key signal during boot. If the key is pressed or GRUB 2 cannot determine the status of the key, the menu is displayed. "

I suspect what is happening is that grub cannot determine the status of the non existent keyboard and displays the grub menu and waits.

I also note that ubuntu has a grub setting GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT, which is not present in Centos.
