|Summary||0016434: CentOs 5.11 VM lost network connection on 7.7 KVM host|
I have a centOs 5.11 VM (krn 2.6.18-419) with 1-socket/6-core/1-thread which lost network
connectivity after boot (no logs info, eth0 seem ok but no packets flows).
Please note that the problem seem to not appear with 2-core (but I haven't check it for long

Update: also with two cores VM goes off line. Only with one core it remain online.
Try changing IRQ affinity for network card bring VM instantly offline.
Update-2: it seem that disabling "irqbalance" greatly improve stability with 6 cores.
Please note that this change is not required with the previous krn 3.10.0-957 on KVM/centos-7.7 host but is needed with krn 3.10.0-1062
It surprise me that with "irqbalance" disabled the interrupts are nevertheless distributed on the different cores (refering to "cat /proc/interrupts" output). Using "ping -f <host IP>" I can see interrupt on all cores in the VM.
|CentOS 5 is utterly and completely unsupported.|
|I agree, but isn't a good thing that a CentOS 5.11 (with a kernel of 2017) crash while a Win XP VM (dual-core) have no problem on the same host with centos 7.7 ... ;(|
