Summary | 0016552: Recent CentOS kernels (sometime after 7.4) cifs.ko module fails mounting anything
Description | Attempt to mount any Windows share (tested fully updated windows server 2012R2, Windows 10 1809, and Windows 10 1903) fails. Oct 7 10:19:53 d0lppb080 kernel: CIFS VFS: validate protocol negotiate failed: -22 Oct 7 10:19:53 d0lppb080 kernel: CIFS VFS: failed to connect to IPC (rc=-5) Oct 7 10:19:53 d0lppb080 kernel: CIFS VFS: validate protocol negotiate failed: -22 Oct 7 10:19:53 d0lppb080 kernel: CIFS VFS: session ffff9f240257c000 has no tcon available for a dfs referral request Oct 7 10:19:53 d0lppb080 kernel: CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -5
Steps To Reproduce | mount -t cifs //d0wppb122/x /tmpmnt -o username=user,workgroup=D0WPPB122,vers=3.0,password=password We tried multiple values of vers= and sec=. However the above is where we originally discovered the inability to mount.
Additional Information | Rolling our system back to 3.10.0-862.14.4.el7.x86_64 (chose this kernel because it was installed on our CentOS 7 system, not sure what "version" update of CentOS it actually belongs to). We suspect that the bad kernel module happend sometime after 7.4, but can't say when. We are willing to do some basic experiments using the 7.7 kernel (3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64). If there's a workaround using the later kernel, we haven't found it.
