Summary0016898: CentOS8 does not recognize IDE disk, CentOS 7 and Ubuntu do
DescriptionI have a file-server that runs Centos 7.7.
When I boot a Centos8 usb, the root disk is not available as device. When I boot Centos 7 it is available, when I boot an Ubuntu usb stick it is available, only Cenos 8 does not "see" this drive, probably becaus de disk or controller is not supported anymore (it is a bit older...)
The disk is a SAMSUNG HM160HC connected to the on-board IDE controller of an Asus M4N78-VM mother board.
Could this controller/disk be made available via an extra driver?

I gathered some information of the system:

dmidecode -t 2
# dmidecode 3.2
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 2.5 present.

Handle 0x0002, DMI type 2, 15 bytes

Support for the device with [1043:82f2] ID pairing was dropped in RHEL-8 (therefore CentOS-8). You can use ELRepo's DUD (driver disk update) for kmod-pata_amd to install the OS. Please see http://elrepoproject.blogspot.com/2019/08/rhel-80-and-support-for-removed-adapters.html for more details.
