Summary0017118: [acpi] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)
DescriptionWe have seen this kernel panic twice now: once last June on one of our own systems (in "3.10.0-957.12.1") and now this morning on a customer's system (in "3.10.0-1062.9.1"), both on Intel NUC systems, of the same model ("NUC8i7BEH"). See attached kernel BUG logs.

Looking around on the kernel bugzilla, this appears to be the same as https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59641 (which was later closed as a dupe of https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59091 though the backtraces on that cannot be viewed anymore), which was fixed in https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/36b15875a7819a2ec4cb5748ff7096ad7bd86cbb in kernel 3.13.

Looking in the source RPM for "3.10.0-1062.12.1", it appears that patch has not been merged back in. So, fixing this issue should be as simple as merging that upstream patch.

CentOS is a rebuild of the sources used to create RHEL. We do not modify anything except to remove branding and logos. You will need to submit your request to Redhat via bugzilla.redhat.com and if/when RH accepts it and incorporates it into RHEL and releases a patched version, then CentOS will pick it up and rebuild it.

OK, I reported upstream as https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1811132

This was fixed upstream in version kernel-3.10.0-1138.el7, so whenever that is out and in CentOS, this can be closed.

Sounds like the patch will be in the RHEL/CentOS 7.9 kernel. In the meantime, we will add it to the centosplus kernel.
