Summary | 0018293: Torrent for DNF
Description | Hi, Unlike RHEL 8, EL8 rebuilds have mirrors. It would be great if the DNF install/update used multiple mirrors like torrents, speeding up the download process. We do not know how hard this is to implement. We feel that the code might be there somewhere. Thanks

This is an interesting idea. I think DNF wouldn't necessarily need to implement the actual bittorrent protocol -- and I'm sure many users would not like the idea of seeding packages for other users in the swarm -- but spreading regular HTTP downloads across multiple mirrors could possibly speed up package downloads and more evenly distribute load among mirror hosts... I suspect this suggestion should have been sent directly to the actual DNF developers, though, and they recommend submitting tickets to the Red Hat Bugzilla > "Fedora" product > "dnf" component, as described here: https://github.com/rpm-software-management/dnf/wiki/Bug-Reporting |
