Did you check the checksum of your copy of the ISO after downloading it? Does it match the official one from http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7#head-9e717f2e95c7cb447ef66c0a0ae1315027b67684 ?

If it does, please share the model of your motherboard and graphics card.

Yes, the iso is ok and the populated /sysroot seems to be ok as well. At least I can chroot, mount /proc and exec commands. However, e.g. init 3 doesn't work.

not sure, whether Graphics is the problem, because I boot into text mode.

BTW: Booting CentOS 6.3 live works as expected.

Are you using physical media or a USB stick? If a USB stick, how are you creating it?

I'm booting via pxe. To get it pass, I applied the patches from centos.tgz. PXE provides the initrd0.img,vmlinuz0 from the iso:/isolinux/ dir. Access to the iso is provided via NFS (the machine has no dvd drive and even if it would, nobody would be there to insert the dvd ...).

As far as I know for PXE boot you should use vmlinuz and initrd from images/pxeboot/

later edit: never mind, they are identical to what you used
