Summary0007491: mailx does not handle utf-8 chars in From when creating e-mail
DescriptionProgram mail does not correctly handle utf-8 characters in From part on remote delivery.
Steps To Reproducesudo -i
adduser test -c 'týž'
su - test
echo Hi|mail -s 'test1' someone@somwhere.net
echo Hi|mutt -s 'test2' someone@somwhere.net
Additional InformationOn the receiver side see the difference between mail created using mailx and mutt.

UTF-8 chars in Subject are OK.

LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_ALL=en_GB.UTF-8

If you create user with
adduser test -c 'týž'
then e-mails are correct.

So the bug is in mail in the part which detects what encoding should be used.

Excuse me, please. The almost last paragraph in "Additional Information" should be:

If you create user with
adduser test -c '?š??žýáíé'
then e-mails are correct.

There is probably a problem with this bug tracker too. The string I pasted was
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER E WITH CARON,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER S WITH CARON,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C WITH CARON,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER R WITH CARON,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER Z WITH CARON,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER Y WITH ACUTE,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A WITH ACUTE,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER I WITH ACUTE,
LATIN CAPITAL LETTER E WITH ACUTE

The request tracker changed some characters to question marks.
