Summary | 0007793: Unable to run KDE over XDMCP due to gnome 3D errors
Description | Centos 7 on the server with XDMCP enabled. Workstation running Centos 7 and attempting to start "Xnest :1 -query server" produces a black window and the server reports: <code>Oct 28 08:57:42 nx /usr/bin/dbus-launch: gnome-session-is-accelerated: No composite extension. Oct 28 08:57:42 nx /usr/bin/dbus-launch: gnome-session-check-accelerated: Helper exited with code 256 Oct 28 08:57:42 nx /usr/bin/dbus-launch: ** (process:32693): WARNING **: software acceleration check failed: Child process exited with code 1</code> The same failure occurs with the workstation booting into X as an xdmcp client. All our workstations are now failing due to this. I could not find a way to get kdm to run without gnome on the server. I appreciate that the underlying bug is in the upstream gnome software but the fact that kde on centos 7 has a dependency on it is something centos may be able to resolve.
Steps To Reproduce | Install Centos 7 - choose "KDE Plasma Workspaces" as the software group to install, configure XDMCP. On the client either boot into xdmcp or use Xnest.
Additional Information | This also happens with OpenSUSE 13.1 as the workstation OS. Other distros have the same problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281
